”May the Lord answer you in a day of trouble; may the name of Jacob’s God protect you. Some take pride in chariots, and others in horses, but we take pride in the name of the Lord our God. They collapse and fall, but we rise and stand firm.“
Psalms 20:1, 7-8 CSB
David’s confidence is in God and Gods reputation. Twice in this short passage David references “the name of God” as where he is drawing strength. This is similar to how we might think about the US military: another country would not mess with the US because we have the strongest, largest and most sophisticated defense team ever created. Its reputation is overwhelming, which gives us great confidence.
David’s point is that other people trust in army’s (like the USA) but he is depending on Gods reputation, which outshines any other power. In fact, His power is incomparable with any other, He could vaporize the US military is a fraction of a second with a single though…zero energy expended.
Lord, thank you for giving me a confidence in You, You have been nothing short of faithful to me for the last 43 years. Open my eyes to see where I am trusting in anything other than You because I know that it will fade or fail. You are the only person, power or thing that will never fail!
