Psalm 99- Justice Required

“Moses and Aaron were among his priests; Samuel also was among those calling on his name. They called to the Lord and he answered them. He spoke to them in a pillar of cloud; they kept his decrees and the statutes he gave them. Lord our God, you answered them. You were a forgiving God to them, but an avenger of their sinful actions.”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭99‬:‭6‬-‭8‬ ‭CSB‬‬

Read Context

How amazing is it that God, the God responsible for creation, answers their prayers.  It may be tempting to think that God only answers the “super Christian” but this psalm reminds us that God answers anyone who calls to Him.  We don’t deserve that!

The last verse is sobering…God is forgiving but also just!  Justice requires that He fairly punish people for their sin.  Yet He doesn’t punish those who have faith in Jesus work on the cross…and He remains fair, because he put that penalty on Jesus, rather than on them.  What an incredible God that would make a plan like that at His own expense, then give it to believers as a gift! I am in awe…
